Restaurant Walhalla since 1952

Restaurant Walhalla is a gourmet restaurant located on the historic grounds on the fortified southern edge of the Kustaanmiekka isle, Suomenlinna. The restaurant offers, besides the beautiful surroundings of its main dining hall caponiere Delwig, also a bar, a stunning Sea view terrace and the Pizzeria Nikolai. The restaurant is open from the First of May till the crayfish season in autumn. The restaurant is open for orders all year.

We offer our customers wireless internet and improved 3G reception even inside our fortified walls!

Restaurant Walhalla was built into the fortress as Helsinki prepared itself for the Olympic Games of 1952. The caponieres Delwig and Boije were remade into a restaurant under the supervision of architect Aulis Blomstedt. The name of the restaurant is inspired by the Walhalla secret society that in the 1780's conspired against the Swedish king Gustav III. The name of the secret society, Walhalla, was taken as was trendy in those days, from Scandinavian mythology, where it is the place in the after world where heroes and warriors enjoyed an eternal feast.

Enjoy Walhalla and its surroundings with our virtual tour.

Restaurant Walhalla is located on the historic grounds on the fortified southern edge of Kustaanmiekka isle, Suomenlinna, right by the King's Gate.

You can either take the Waterbus directly to the King's Gate, or if you want to enjoy a nice walk (~15 min) through the historic island, you can use the public Suomenlinna ferry. The crossing takes about 15 minutes. Usually ferries run four times an hour, through the entire season of Walhalla. Suomenlinna brochures are available on the ferry, so you can plan your visit during the crossing. Both depart from the Market square on the seaside of central Helsinki.
